Elements include:
Boron,Silicon, Germanium, Arsenic, Antimony, and Tellurium
All these elements border the stair stepped line on the periodic table.
They are valuable in the computer chip and semiconductor industry.
Metalloids have properties of both metals and nonmetals.
Most of these elements are usually brittle and somewhat shiny.
Metalloids have electronic structures intermediate between the nearly empty outer electron shells of the typical metals and the nearly filled electron shells of the nonmetals. So, they have enough empty electron orbitals into which electrons can be moved to conduct electric current.
Jons Berzelius discovered silicon in 1823.
Individual Uses:
Silicon is used for electrical insulators, fabric softeners, hair sprays, hand creams, furniture, and automobile polishes, and chewing gum
Arsenic is used in bronzing and improving the roundness of lead shot in shotgun shells
Antimony is used for bullets and cable sheathing
Tellurium compounds are used for glass coloring, enamel, and ceramics
Germanium is used for fluorescent lamps
